ROXBURY, NJ - Township officials are gearing up for the Fall Community Clean Up Day, scheduled to take place Oct 26, and are seeking volunteers of all ages.

Starting at 9 a.m. and lasting until noon, the event will entail having volunteers clean trails, woodlands, parks, roadsides, neighborhoods and walkways, said Roxbury Clean Communities Coordinator Kellie Ann Keyes.

Participants will meet at the Roxbury Department of Public Works (DPW) office located at 96 N. Dell Ave. in Kenvil.

“We are hoping to have as great of a turn out as we did for our Earth Day clean up in April,” Keyes said. “We had a mix of groups working, not just along roadways, but also in more neglected areas where material had been dumped and heavily concealed."

Keyes said in one area the volunteers removed computer equipment, car parts and metal rebar. "It was fun to watch - as the material was found - how the group kept going back hoping to find more to remove," she said. "What a great way to make a visible, positive impact on our community.”

The day will start with assignments and instructions. Assignments are given according to age and safety, Keyes said.

Bags, gloves, vests, light refreshments and water to refill re-useable water bottle will be provided and free travel mugs will be given to all volunteers while supplies last.

Keyes noted that travel might be necessary for certain assigned locations.

To register, email keyesk@roxburynj.us or call 973-448-2053 for additional information. Mini-grants are available for nonprofit organizations on a first-come, first-serve basis.

"Participation is easy, fun and really makes a difference," Keyes said, noting the township is open to receiving suggestions about places that could use a litter clean-up.
