ROXBURY, NJ - Led by junior Hailey Womer who blasted a 2-run homer, the Roxbury High School softball team squeezed out a win over Pope John XXIII on Wednesday.
The 4-3 Gaels victory capped a light-scoring outing. Roxbury was first on the scoreboard with a run in the first inning, a point answered in the third by Pope John. But the Gaels scored three more in that third inning and the teams entered the fifth with Roxbury ahead 4-1.
During the fifth, the Gaels added two more runs. That ended scoring for both teams.
Roxbury's Vanessa Dash was two for three with a run scored and Madison Amdur was two for three with an RBI.
Emily Song was the winning pitcher for Roxbury pitching all seven innings. She allowed three runs, seven hits and made three strikeouts.
The Gaels, 4-2, hope to continue the winning Thursday with a home game against Jefferson.
