ROXBURY, NJ – The Roxbury High School Student Council is planning a new event it hopes will be become an annual rite: The "Roxbury Summer Kickoff."
Scheduled to take place May 20 by the Horseshoe Lake Park band shell and pavilion in Succasunna, the event “was created to bring the community together for one day where everyone is involved, all age groups invited and all types of activities are included,” the student council said.
The Summer Kickoff will run from noon to sunset, said Student Council President Kaila Mathis. She said the event began as an idea for a gathering of Roxbury High School clubs.
“But then we decided it would be good to have all age groups and all different clubs around town involved,” Mathis said. “We’ve been prepping this for a while.”
The student council has received commitments to attend from several food truck operators as well as some music performers, dance acts, local vendors and organizations. “It’s a student council event, but it’s for the whole town, explained Mathis.
Tickets are $5 per person or $3 for those who come with a canned food donation for Roxbury Social Services.
The student council created an online “Eventbrite” page where tickets can be purchased. On the page, the student council urged people or groups that are involved in fundraisers to consider setting up a booth at the Kickoff.
“We are also opening this event up to the town,” says the page. “So if you have a fundraiser you would like to do or advertise for, a business you would like to promote, a product you would like to sell or even just a fun idea for a table that you think people would enjoy, please feel free to contact firstname.lastname@example.org. We will not be taking ANY form of your profits, this is just a venue for you to conduct business, advertise or whatever you would like.”
