SPARTA, N.J. - The Roxbury High School volleyball team got its season off to a great start today by winning its first contest in a 2-0 defeat of Sparta.
In the away meet-up, the Gaels beat the Spartans 25-19 and 25-17. Haley Cook and Kendall Torpin scored two aces each. Cook also made 11 service points and Torpin made seven. Reghan Palanchi made 11 kills and blocked four shots.
"Senior Reghan Palanchi was a dominant force at the net" said coach Anthony McMichael, who also pointed to Cook's service points and junior Torpin's "tough" serves. McMichael said libero Matiz, a senior, "anchored the back court with fantastic serve-receive passing and consistent defense."
The team plays away again Monday in a 4 p.m. match against West Morris Central.
