ROXBURY, NJ - Roxbury’s youngest had a chance this summer to watch their hard work grow into some yummy fruits and vegetables in the Roxbury Community School’s Garden Club for Preschool through fourth grade at Kennedy and Nixon schools.
These hands-on camps allowed children to learn gardening basics, techniques and practical skills for gardening in the spring and summer. Participants harvested some lettuce and other veggies to bring home to their families during their time at camp along with tips on gardening and composting at home!
Summer is a time to watch plants flourish, maintain crops, plant a second crop rotation, and harvest produce such as tomatoes, cucumbers and more. Students helped provide proper nourishment, water, and cultivation to ensure a great harvest.
When they weren’t working in the garden, they were working on small projects to add to the garden like painted rocks and scarecrows.
