ROXBURY, NJ – Circle Bowl & Entertainment’s celebration of 60 years in business in Ledgewood continued last week when township officials honored the company.

Circle Bowl, a TAPinto Roxbury sponsor, was one of three businesses inducted by the Roxbury Economic Development Committee (EDC) into its “Roxbury Business Hall of Fame.” Also inducted were Alex’s Barber Shop and Cornerstone Financial Group.

“The Roxbury EDC thinks it is very important to recognize the long-term success of businesses in our township,” said EDC Chairman Michael Shadiack. “The recognition illustrates, to the long-term businesses, that the township holds them in high regards and that they are extremely important to the success of Roxbury.”

The chairman added that “highlighting the long-term businesses also shows new businesses in town here already, or looking to move here, that they too can be successful in Roxbury and that the township welcomes their business.”

In Ocbober, Circle Bowl celebrated its six decades of operation by throwing a party. Two years ago, the business was awarded the Roxbury Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual local business beautification award due to a $5 million expansion and upgrade that took place in 2015.

The company, originally named Circle Lanes, was founded in 1959 and named Circle Lanes by Andrew Dougherty along with his son Andy Dougherty. Now operated by Keith Dougherty of Landing, it is in its third generation of family ownership, noted the EDC.

It pointed out that the 2015 renovation “took a successful bowling alley and turned it into an outstanding state-of-the-art family fun center complete with laser tag, arcade games, party rooms, full restaurant and of course well-oiled bowling lanes.”

In an October post on Facebook, announcing the birthday party, Circle Bowl said, “60 years has come and gone in the blink of an eye … Although Circle has changed dramatically on the inside we have always stayed the same small Circle Bowl family.”

Alex’s Barber Shop, which used to be situated adjacent to Circle Lanes and is now in Kenvil, began operating in 1961 and is run by the grandsons of founder Sandor Stibinger. Cornerstone Financial Group has been in business for 31 years.
