Time for Roxbury Rotary Fruit and Pie Sale

ROXBURY, NJ – The annual Roxbury Rotary Club fresh fruit and pie sale is in full swing and Rotarian Steve Alford said this year’s offerings should be better than ever.

“This year we switched to a new fruit vendor,” said Alford. He said the club wasn’t happy with some of the fruit it received during the past two years from a different supplier.

This year, because of the new vendor, the Rotary Club is offering two new fruit packages, Alford said. In addition to oranges and grapefruits, the club is selling a combination featuring oranges, grapefruits and tangelos, and another one that includes oranges, grapefruits and apples.

All fruit must be ordered before Oct. 27. Orders can be placed online or by contacting a member of the Rotary Club including Alford (at 973-201-1204) Prices range from $30 per box to $39 per box.

There are eight types of pies being sold this year: Apple, Pumpkin, Key Lime, Lemon Meringue, Caramel apple Walnut, Peach Praline and French Silk. Prices range from $17 to $23 per pie.

The pies are made by Ovens of Ashley of Pompton Plains.

Pie orders will be accepted until Nov. 15. There is no online ordering capability for the pies, but an order form can be downloaded by clicking here.pdf

Both the cases of fruit and the pies will be distributed by Rotarians on Nov. 18 in front of the Roxbury Recreation Department at Horseshoe Lake Park in Succasunna.

“I really encourage people to stop down the day of the event,” Alford said, noting that doing so is sure to spark the holiday spirit. “It’s filled with awesome kids from the Roxbury High School Interact Club helping load fruit.”

The annual fruit and pie sale is the largest fundraiser for the Rotary Club, Alford said. The club tries to sell about 1,000 cases of fruit and 300 pies.
