ROXBURY, NJ - It was bad enough that a car jumped a curb and smashed into the Empower Nutrition store in Kenvil today. But what also seemed to bother shop owner Emedin Rivera was the rudeness of the wayward motorist.

He said the person who accidentally drove her Toyota Camry through his plate glass storefront at about 2:45 p.m. showed no sign of remorse or embarrassment. In fact, she didn't even approach him, Rivera said. She just put her car in reverse and backed it away from the mayhem, he said.

"No apology, no nothing," said Rivera, discussing the incident as a cold breeze blew into his Kenvil Plaza store while his father finished sweeping up the broken glass.

Police and firefighters came to the scene. Rivera said nobody was injured although he noted he did have customers in the store at the time.

"This lady just drove through the glass with her car," Rivera said. "I looked up and saw it happening and that was it."

Roxbury police spokeswoman Jennifer Dillard said the driver was a 72-year-old Ledgewood resident. Dillard did not know whether the woman was issued any summonses.

When an apparently similar incident happened in June 2016 in Ledgwood, police charged a 78-year-old woman with careless driving. They said she "mistook gas for brake" pedals before plowing into The Little Gym on Route 10, nearly running down the business owner, Danielle Mikolay.

Dear Editor,

As of late, due to most disturbing acts of violence against children in our schools, there is much vigorous debate regarding gun control and protection of our children and grand-children.

Much of the debate is based on emotion rather than reasoned thought.

I think that exploration in three areas needs to be more thoroughly discussed and debated. The first is ...
