ROXBURY, NJ – People headed to the store today for Super Bowl party provisions might consider picking up items for Roxbury Social Service’s Food Pantry. Those who do can bring the stuff to the annual St. Therese Super Bowl Weekend “Hoops for Hope Food Drive.”
Admission to watch the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) basketball games taking place today and Sunday will be free to people who come with three items of non-perishable food, cleaning supplies and/or toiletries to be donated to the Food Pantry, said tournament director Mike Otto of Kenvil.
“They can drop the items by St. Therese all day Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 3:30 p.m.,” Otto said.
Additionally, half of all money raised through entry fees to the 11-team tournament will be given to Roxbury Social Services.
This year’s tournament, the second in what St. Therese expects to be a yearly event, will be bigger and better than last year’s version, Otto said. “Last year, the Paterson CYO organization did not give us a full weekend slate of games,” he explained. “This year we will have eight games on Saturday and three on Sunday.”
The players are in fourth grade through eighth grade. After this weekend’s tournaments, the teams begin playoffs.
