RANDOLPH, NJ - After remaining vacant for over a year, the building on Center Grove Road that once housed the A&P supermarket has been leased to l Weis Markets, said a Randolph official.
“I am pleased to report that Weis Markets, as has been rumored for some time now, has come to terms with the owners of the Center Grove retail plaza and the lease has been signed,” said Randolph Township Manager Stephen Mountain.
When A&P shut its doors in late 2015, residents and members of the Randolph Township Council expressed hope another grocery store would occupy the spot, but waited on lease negotiations between the property owner and tenants. Weis Markets hopes to reopen the store in early 2018, Mountain said.
“We have actually reached out to Weis to see if there is anything we can do to help facilitate the transition,” Mountain added.
Weis Markets was founded in Sunbury, PA by brothers Harry and Sigmund Weis in 1912. Over 100 years later, Harry Weis’ grandson runs the grocery chain with stores throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, Virginia, and West Virginia. They have another Morris County location in Flanders, NJ.
The grocer manufactures their own brand of ice cream and works with local farmers for produce in the markets.
