What is Senior Care?

"Senior Care" simply means care that does not involve nursing-type activities such as wound changes. In-home care provides practical support with a human touch. Our compassionate CAREGivers assist elder clients with common activities of daily living like showering, cooking and much more. CAREGivers can even help with errands and transportation.

How Home Instead Senior Care Began in Morris County

In 2000, Andrea Sussman was seeking new challenges in the area of senior care. After successfully founding the Geriatric Care Coordination Program at St. Barnabas Medical Center, Andrea learned about Home Instead Senior Care and the wonderful work they were doing to help seniors and their families around the county from a neighboring Home Instead Senior Care owner. She wanted to bring that dedication and passion to the families of Morris County. So, she joined forces with her mom, Susan Mayer, and together the two social workers launched what was soon to become one of Morris County's top senior care services.

Since then the business has grown and expanded from a tiny office in Morristown to an office in Denville and now to an even larger office in Succasunna. Home Instead Senior Care has now been successfully serving families with a variety of needs in Morris County and the surrounding areas for over 19 years.

Grant Program Delivers Alzheimer’s Care to Families in Need

Until you’ve cared for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia, it’s difficult to understand the toll it can take on family caregivers.

“People who know little about dementia do not understand the all-encompassing stress of being a caregiver. It is too much.” Those powerful words come from family caregiver Barbara, who cared for her mother with ...

Five Tips to Find Balance as a Family Caregiver

“Never believe that a few caring people can’t change the world. For, indeed, that’s all who ever have,” said Margaret Mead, anthropologist.

What a fitting quote for a family caregiver. Without question, we can say that caregiving and a human touch have an impact on those who are receiving care. And, family caregivers are on the front lines providing this care for so ...

Tip: What’s in a Name? If you fail to name a beneficiary on your IRA, it may be much more difficult for your beneficiaries to ‘stretch’ the inherited IRA over their lifetimes.

The Investment Company Institute reports that there is roughly $7.9 trillion in Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA). To help put that in perspective, that’s nearly half the annual gross ...

The Problems with Probate

Many people have heard they should avoid probate, but few understand what probate is and how the process works.

What Is Probate?

Probate is the legal process that wraps up a person’s legal and financial affairs after their death. During the probate process a person’s property is identified, cataloged, and appraised. In addition, probate makes certain any outstanding debts ...

Do You Need New Tires Right Now?

There are numerous indicators that mean it's time to buy new tires for your vehicle. However, attempting to figure out the precise time span for how long your tires last is nearly impossible.

Many elements factor into the longevity of a tire including weather, the tire's model and type, driving routines, how the driver maintains the tire and the area's road habitat.

What we ...

Some Thoughts on ‘Mindful’ Motoring

Maybe it’s because I’m a “car guy.” Or maybe it’s just because I’ve been around a while.

Whatever the reason, I notice a lot of things drivers do, or don’t do, that make me concerned.

These days, there’s a lot of talk about “mindfulness” and I can think of few activities that benefit as much from being mindful as does driving. Take ...

Where do we Start the Larger Conversation About Guns?

Let's talk about our rights and our freedoms.

How many were free to shop at a Wal-Mart last two Sundays ago without fear that El Paso copycat would announce himself with the staccato fire of an AR-15?

You saw the stampede in the theater district in New York City when a motorcycle backfired. And the evacuation of a Wal-Mart in Union because of a false report.

We may have freedoms, but ...

In Praise of Fútbol, the Game We Call Soccer

What I’ve learned in my travels to Europe and South America in the last couple of years is how refreshing it is to get away from English.

Not being able to understand the banter of language around you is a chance to luxuriate in your own thoughts. You are in a crowd, but not part of it, free of the irritating banality of most conversations.

In a strange land I can sit and be oblivious ...
