When we drive east on Route 10 through Roxbury, many of us might remember a Shell station at the Randolph border next to the golf range. It was in that station that Nancy and Peyton Knight began their long history of auto repair in the township.

That was 1983 and soon the Knights’ business grew and expanded. The humble gas station gradually morphed into a state-of-the-art repair facility that had to be relocated to a larger building in 1996.

Knight’s Automotive Repair, a TAPinto Roxbury sponsor, eventually became Roxbury’s longest running repair shop. Such longevity in the industry is a direct result of loyal customers who return year after year for service they came to expect.

“Many of our original customers followed us to our present location where today we continue to provide honest, reliable automotive service and repair to multiple generations of these same families in our local community,” Peyton said.

The Knights are in the auto repair business but their presence in town is much broader than oil changes and rebuilding engines. The couple has become a fixture in Roxbury; one of the strongest supporters of local team sports from junior to high school levels.

When it’s time for a fundraiser for a sport or Scout Troop or band program, the Knights always try to help. “Being in business here for over 33 years, we have seen many of the area kids grow up and participate in all the wonderful programs available here in Roxbury, so of course we like to support them,” Nancy Knight said.

The Knights don’t stop there. Both are generous with their time, volunteering with many clubs and organizations in Roxbury. Peyton served as both vice-president and president during his tenure in Roxbury Kiwanis. Nancy is a past vice-president and president of the Roxbury Area Chamber of Commerce and she remains active as an ex-officio board member.

The Knights are active sponsors of the annual Summer Concert Series through the Roxbury Arts Alliance. Always pitching in, they volunteer time at events including Taste of Roxbury, Santa Land and the Community Yard Sale. In fact, rumor has it Peyton once donned a Santa suit to save Santa Land when the real Santa came down with the flu.

The location of Knight’s Automotive, at 171 East Main Street in Ledgewood, couldn’t be better during the holiday season. The site is on the rail line that the Military Transport Association uses to collect donations for Toys for Tots. Every year, you will find huge boxes filling the lobby of Knight’s Automotive to collect toys from their generous customers. Each December, when Santa makes his whistle stop at their shop, the Knights are ready with refreshments for the Marines and volunteers while they help load all the toys collected onto the train.

Of all the causes that the Knights are involved in, they are most passionate about their participation in the national Wheels to Prosper car giveaway program.  For the last six years, Nancy, Peyton and their employees have refurbished a used vehicle to make it safe and reliable transportation and then awarded it to a deserving community member in need of a car.

“Every year we seek nominations from the local area,” Peyton said. “With the help of other local businesses, we help change the life of someone who is struggling with transportation needs.”

Through the years, Knight’s Automotive Repair has earned a reputation not only as a trusted auto repair facility but as a friend in business to the town of Roxbury. If you are looking for excellent repair and maintenance service provided by a family owned business, consider Knight’s Automotive Repair. They don’t just fix cars, they are involved in the town you call home.

They might want to rethink that.

When it snows, ...
