More Families Living Under One Roof

Before moving a senior loved one into your home, make sure all family members buy into the idea and understand the looming expectations and challenges. Then put a plan in place that will help ensure harmony under one roof.

Q. I’m thinking of moving my 90-year-old father in with the family. Is this common and what should I know?

Multigenerational living is on the increase. As a ...

Grant Program Delivers Alzheimer’s Care to Families in Need

Until you’ve cared for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia, it’s difficult to understand the toll it can take on family caregivers.

“People who know little about dementia do not understand the all-encompassing stress of being a caregiver. It is too much.” Those powerful words come from family caregiver Barbara, who cared for her mother with ...

WHAT IS A STRETCH IRA?

Tip: What’s in a Name? If you fail to name a beneficiary on your IRA, it may be much more difficult for your beneficiaries to ‘stretch’ the inherited IRA over their lifetimes.

The Investment Company Institute reports that there is roughly $7.9 trillion in Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA). To help put that in perspective, that’s nearly half the annual gross ...

The Problems with Probate

Many people have heard they should avoid probate, but few understand what probate is and how the process works.

What Is Probate?

Probate is the legal process that wraps up a person’s legal and financial affairs after their death. During the probate process a person’s property is identified, cataloged, and appraised. In addition, probate makes certain any outstanding debts ...

Can “AI” Help You Become a Better Investor?

For the past several years, artificial intelligence – or AI – has increasingly found a place in many walks of life. Almost certainly, you use some form of AI, whether it’s your time on social media, your use of mobile banking, the navigation system you rely on for directions, or any of the many other AI-driven applications relevant to your daily life. But AI has also become a ...

Do You Need New Tires Right Now?

There are numerous indicators that mean it's time to buy new tires for your vehicle. However, attempting to figure out the precise time span for how long your tires last is nearly impossible.

Many elements factor into the longevity of a tire including weather, the tire's model and type, driving routines, how the driver maintains the tire and the area's road habitat.

What we ...

Some Thoughts on ‘Mindful’ Motoring

Maybe it’s because I’m a “car guy.” Or maybe it’s just because I’ve been around a while.

Whatever the reason, I notice a lot of things drivers do, or don’t do, that make me concerned.

These days, there’s a lot of talk about “mindfulness” and I can think of few activities that benefit as much from being mindful as does driving. Take ...

70 Years Ago, Camden Man Became Nation's First Mass Murderer

His name, like the names of his victims, is nearly forgotten.

But what Howard Unruh did 70 years ago today in Camden, N.J. foreshadowed the insanity of mass shootings we live with today.

Insanity is the operative word here. From lockdown drills in nursery schools to bullet resistant backpacks, random mass shootings have become part of the “uniquely American” cultural ...

A Day When the Sea Was More Hostile Than the Wind or Sun

The boy struggled with a cart filled with beach stuff as he dragged it down the boardwalk. It was fish-tailing behind him and I almost told him to push rather than pull, but decided to mind my own business. I was pushing a small load myself, my sleeping grandson in a stroller.

He was with a girl a few years younger, a woman who looked to be a grandmother, and several small children. His role ...
