ROXBURY, NJ – An online fundraiser has been launched to help the Roxbury High School Band participate in the 2020 National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, DC.
The GoFundMe site, found here, was created Thursday by the Roxbury High School Band Parents Association (RHSBPA) which hopes to raise $10,000.
According to the RHSBPA, the Roxbury High School Band was nominated by U.S. Rep. Tom Malinowski “to be an official representative” of New Jersey at the May 25 parade.
“This event is the official Memorial Day parade of the United States and is nationally televised across the U.S. and streamed to our Armed Forces worldwide,” said the RHSBPA. “Congressman Malinowski recommended Roxbury based on our long-standing tradition of musical excellence.”

If enough money is raised, the band will head to Washington on May 24 and spend two days there. The trip will include a visit to Arlington National Cemetery, a tour of monuments on the National Mall, a visit to a Smithsonian museum and admittance to a performance by the National Symphony Orchestra on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol.
The band would play on May 25 during the parade down Constitution Avenue, an event the parents’ association calls a “march of a lifetime” for the students. “This is an amazing opportunity to showcase our students and our community at a national level,” added the RHSBPA.
It noted the parade will be broadcast to about 1.5 million television viewers and shown live to members of the U.S. military via the American Forces Network. There will also be live streaming on YouTube and FM radio coverage, according to the RHSBPA.
