ROXBURY, NJ – About 50 vendors will be attending a vendor and craft fair taking place Nov. 22 at Franklin Elementary School, according to the school’s parent-teacher association, the event’s sponsor.
The fair, the second one run by the PTA is “largely focused on local vendors and crafters from the Morris County area,” said PTA member Janelle Araujo. She said the organizers hoped to get 40 vendors for the event, which starts at 7 p.m.
“We have surpassed that goal,” Araujo said. “Since some of our vendors have requested multiple tables, our school’s gymnasium will host over 55 tables.”
Araujo said there will be “amazing raffle baskets” at the fair filled with donated items from each vendor. The vendors will be selling a wide variety of items, including homemade dog biscuits created by Franklin School student Violet Stein.
“While we will have many crafters, we limited any direct-sale marketers to one per product,” she said. “For example there will be only one vendor from Thirty-One Gifts, Beachbody, Tupperwear, etc. to avoid duplicates and expand the options for those shopping.”
The PTA wants the fair to become a tradition that provides money for the school and its students.
“The only goal we had in mind was to make this event successful and establish an annual event that can successfully raise funds for our school,” Araujo said. “We have given the parents and teachers of Franklin School a large say on how we will spend the money.”
She said the PTA is running an "idea-a-thon" called the "Big Brilliant Idea" where it is soliciting ideas from Franklin staffers and parents on ways to improve the school. “We have a list of ideas, ranging from a gaga pit, a makerspace/STEAM lab in the school with hands on equipment and an overhang by the main entrance,” Arajjo said. “At our upcoming PTA meeting … we will begin to vote on the ideas to implement.”
In the past the organization raised money to replace playground equipment, install buddy benches, purchase an iPad cart for the school, and more.
