ROXBURY, NJ – A Roxbury High School senior took first place in a recent art contest and was awarded a $48,000 scholarship.
The student, Tara Egan, won the crafts category in the 32nd Annual Mount Olive High School National Art Honor Society Invitational. Egan, who submitted a sample of her embroidery, was awarded the scholarship to the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
Another Roxbury senior, Evan Van Biert, placed second in the mixed media category for his work with toner transfers.
The annual invitational competition is open to students from Mount Olive High School and 13 other high schools including Boonton, Bridgewater-Raritan, Butler, High Point, Montville, North Hunterdon, North Warren, Randolph, Roxbury, Vernon and Voorhees.
There were 130 pieces of artwork submitted to this year’s contest.
