ROXBURY, NJ – Businesses on Route 46 between Howard Boulevard in Ledgewood and Canfield Avenue in Mine Hill will stay open this weekend as police officers help motorists find their way around town during a closure of the highway in Kenvil.

A railroad crossing upgrade will force detours of through traffic, but local police will be on hand to assist drivers heading to local businesses, said Roxbury Police Lt. Dan Murray.

“We will have four to six officers posted to help people navigate,” said Murray.

The situation, detailed in this TAPinto Roxbury article, is necessary to allow a contractor to improve the Dover and Rockaway River Railroad’s crossing near Blue Ridge Lumber and Morris County Marine. Beginning at 6 p.m. Friday and possibly lasting until 7 p.m. Sunday, the busy highway will be closed - to through traffic - between Hillside Avenue and Kenvil Avenue.

Through traffic on Route 46 will be detoured to Route 10 at Howard Boulevard and at Canfield Avenue. That means people going to businesses between Canfield Avenue and Howard Boulevard “must exit the same way you came in,;Route 46 will not be assessable either way at the railroad crossing,” police said.

“There will be a detour set up to assist motorists with navigating the closure,” said the police department. “All businesses will be open between the detour, but you will not be able to access the area between Hillside and Kenvil Avenue.”
