ROXBURY, NJ - Front yards, and some offices, around Roxbury will soon be invaded by flocks of plastic pink flamingoes as "flocking" returns to raise money for sick children, said the school district.

People can donate money to have students place groups of flamingoes at their friends, or foes, properties And people who want to be protected from being flocked can help the cause by buying "Anti-Flocking Insurance."

Money raised through the effort will go to Goryeb Children’s Hospital in Morristown and to Four Diamonds (Penn State Children's Hospital) to support pediatric cancer research and medical bills.

“Flocking is super simple," said Roxbury High School senior Holly Van Ness. "Flocking is when you harmlessly prank your friends by signing up for us to put a flock of plastic flamingoes on their lawn.”

The fake birds stay on the flocked yards for up to 48 hours. A flock of 10 flamingos costs $15, a flock of 30 costs $25 and a flock of 50 is $35. "If you have a special occasion, you may also choose to request a specific date for an additional $15," noted the school district.

Floxking requests can be made via Google Forms. Removing the flamingoes is free and flocking victims may choose to donate and pass the flamingoes on to somebody else.

Flamingoes are not allowed to flock on public property or apartment complexes but can be sent to a classroom or office within Roxbury Public Schools.

All donations can be sent to Roxbury High School, Attn: Mike Gottfried 1 Bryant Drive, Succasunna, NJ 07876. Checks should be made payable to “RHS Rox-THON”.

Last year, Roxbury raised $82,826.82, bringing their six-year total to nearly $255,000. All Rox-THON fundraisers, including Flocking, contribute to the overall total for the year.

Online donations cannot be accepted at this time but will be available within a few months. For questions regarding the RHS Rox-THON or Flocking, email rhsroxthon@gmail.com. The online flocking form and insurance can also be found at www.roxbury.org.
