ROXBURY, NJ - Second graders in Kathy Byrne and Liz Szigeti’s classes at Kennedy School celebrated "pumpkin week" by putting their math skills to the test earlier this month.
Students used their understanding of place value, base ten and skip counting to count all the seeds in their pumpkins. Parents came in to assist the students in counting the gooey seeds.
“A good time was had by all,” said Byrne. “This was one of many fun learning activities celebrated that week. Over 9,000 seeds in total were counted by our second graders.”
