ROXBURY, NJ - The closure of all township schools due to COVID-19 hasn’t stopped the staff from making sure students are safe and fed. The district created a ‘Meals on Wheels’ program to deliver breakfast and lunch to families on free- and reduced-price lunch plans.
Maschio’s Food Services, the district's food service provider, is making more than 400 meals daily at its hub in Chester before delivering them to the Roxbury school district kitchens.
The district Buildings & Grounds Department staff, in conjunction with Maschio’s, organizes and sorts the meals daily for delivery. Once the meals are sorted, the B&G crew loads up the crates of food onto school buses to be delivered by the district's Transportation Department.
The workers were even having a little fun with it on Friday morning with district Groundskeeper Joe Pinto dressing up as Santa. Over the course of a few hours, all the meals are distributed and the buses are back to the depot.
