MORRISTOWN, NJ - Morris County Clerk Ann Grossi today sent out a video message about reports she has been receiving about mail-in ballot issues. Grossi reports, in the video below, that duplicate ballots have been received as well as ballots for the deceased and ballots for voters who have moved to other addresses.

Grossi urges erroneous ballots to be marked "Return to Sender" and placed back into the mailbox for a return to the county clerk. Grossi explains that Gov. Phil Murphy's executive order called for ballots to be automatically sent out to active registered voters, but that county clerks not have the ability to correct or adjust the voter rolls.

"The Morris County Clerk's Office has received reports of voters receiving duplicate ballots, ballots for voters who have moved away, and ballots for voters who are deceased," Grossi says in a video message. "Gov. Murphy's Executive Order Number 177 mandated that the 2020 New Jersey General Election be conducted by universal mail-in ballot, as a result all county clerks in the state were required to automatically mail ballots to all voters who are listed as active in the state voter registration system.

"County clerks do not have local jurisdiction to update or manage the State Voter Registration System. It is maintained by the State and Board of Election Offices. If you receive a ballot for someone who does not live at your address, is deceased, or you receive a duplicate ballot, please mark it 'Return to Sender' and place it back into your mailbox for the U.S. Postal Service to return to the County Election Office."

Grossi also said that residents receiving erroneous ballots can contact the board of elections at 973-285-6715.
