ROXBURY, NJ – They’ve already served multiple terms on the Roxbury Township Council and this week Bob DeFillippo, Mark Crowley and Jim Rilee said they want more.

In a Tuesday statement, the trio of Republican incumbents announced a joint campaign for reelection to their three at-large seats on the 7-member council. The first step in that process is winning the GOP nomination in the June primary election; so far, no challengers have come forward, but the deadline for filing nomination petitions doesn’t come until April 5.

The council is currently composed of all Republicans. The last Democrat to serve, former Roxbury Councilman Dan Kline, was defeated by Republican Roxbury Councilman Tom Carey in the 2019 general election. So far, no Democrats have announced 2021 primary candidacies.

Of the three men, Rilee has been on the council the longest. If elected, he will serve his seventh 4-year-long term. DeFillippo and Crowley are in their second 4-year-long terms.

All three have served as mayor over the years. DeFillippo is in his third term as mayor, a mainly honorary position chosen by the council from amongst itself each year.

In their statement, Rilee, DeFillippo and Crowley said Roxbury is benefiting from their “fiscally conservative track record.” They noted they’ve been at the helm during the past five years when the council adopted two budgets that required no municipal tax increases. A small increase is being proposed in the yet-to-be-adopted 2021 budget.

“Experience, leadership, and fiscal discipline are the qualities that make the Rilee, Crowley, DeFillippo team the right choice to continue to lead Roxbury through these difficult times and to position the township for future growth and prosperity for all of its residents,” said Rilee, DeFillippo and Crowley in announcing their 2021 candidacies.
