ROXBURY, NJ – John Crimi, the president and CEO of County Concrete Corp. in Kenvil, was presented this week with a permanent honorary membership in the Roxbury Rotary Club.
Crimi, a former Roxbury Rotarian, is the second person in the club’s 60-year history to receive the award, according to the club.
“We celebrated the commitment of John Crimi … to the Rotary ideal of ‘Service Above Self,’” stated the club in announcing the award. It said Crimi “never shied away from offering his hand to help us with our various community endeavors, including, without limit, providing the labor and material for the concrete footings and floors in the pavilion, band shell and gazebo we as a club built on Horseshoe Lake.”
The club noted Crimi was not only a former Rotarian but also served as the club’s president and was a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow.
He 'Never Fails'
Each year, the club names four or five non-Rotarians as temporary, 1-year-long honorary members if they “go above and beyond” to help club. In an interview, Roxbury Rotary Club President Steve Alford stressed the rarity of the club bestowing anybody with permanent honorary membership, but he said Crimi – despite no longer being a member – never fails to help the club.
“He buys 200-plus cases of fruit every year (during the club’s annual Thanksgiving fruit and pie sale), Alford said. “He supports everything we do, so we decided as a club to do this for him. His name will be in our bulletin for the rest of the history of the Roxbury Rotary Club.
The club said Crimi – both personally and through his company – supports Roxbury Rotary fundraisers “in a big way, which helps us to send special needs kids to camp, deserving high school students to college, medically needed children to surgeons willing to help and so on.”
Crimi could not be reached Friday for comment. County Concrete Corp. has been in business for about 40 years, according to its website.
