ROXBURY, NJ – Pleased with the results of last year’s vendor fair, Roxbury Company 1 Fire and EMS in Succasunna is doing it again.
The fire and emergency medical personnel based at the firehouse on Main Street are seeking crafters, direct-sales merchants and other vendors to participate in the Nov. 2 event, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., said organizer Jennifer Markle.
The goal of the fair will be to raise money needed by the fire and EMS station. “We are planning to make this an annual thing and we’re hoping to add another event in the spring,” said Markle, a firefighter. “It was very successful for us last year.”
She said 38 vendors showed up for the 2018 fair, which saw upwards of 150 customers stop in at the firehouse to browse and buy.
“We’re hoping to get more vendors in this time,” Markle said. “Last year - being our first year - was a little trial-and-error. For one thing, the vendor spaces were too big. We are hoping to make them little slimmer and we hope to get at least 50 vendors in there.”
Vendors will be charged $25 per space and those who don’t have their own tables can rent them for $10.
Markle said she and her colleagues are “talking about adding some food truck vendors” this year, with the trucks stationed outside in the parking lot. “We don’t know if that’s going to pan out,” she said.
Last year, the fire and EMS personnel sold hot dogs during the event. Markle said they didn’t sell enough to make it worth doing again. “But we sold a lot of hot pretzels, hot chocolate and bags chips,” she added.
Right now, the organizers are focused on finding vendors. Markle said the event seemed to work best for craft vendors and others selling items “like rustic farmhouse signs or wooden items, which seem to be a hot commodity right now.”
