Guberman, an 8th-grade student at Eisenhower Middle School in Succasunna, died in her home Thursday morning. An obituary provided by her parents depicts Guberman, who was born in Toms River and lived in Succasunna since she was one month old, as an active, fun-loving young lady.

"Maya loved the beach, snowboarding and volleyball," says the obituary. "She was a member of Three Danes Crossfit for two years. She loved cheerleading with the Roxbury Jr. Gaels and participating in the Eisenhower Drama Club."

Guberman is survived by her parents, Jessica and Steve, and older brother, Joshua, her grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins.

The Guberman family is requesting no flowers. Instead, it is asking that those wishing to make donations do so at www.gofundme.com/f/mayarox. As of Saturday, more than $23,000 had been donated and many people used the page to express condolences and fond memories.
