ROXBURY, NJ - The township recycling center, closed since March 18 due to COVID-19 precautions, will reopen on May 16, said a township official.

The center, situated on North Dell Avenue in Kenvil, will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., said township recycling coordinator Kellie Ann Keyes. She said the center will be open only on Saturdays "until further notice." The center will consider opening both weekend days based on the demand, Keyes said.

The center is open to Roxbury residents only. Contractors and professional landscapers are not permitted. Residents without township permits displayed on their vehicles will be asked for proof of residency.

"The purpose of this reopening is to allow residents to recycle items and materials NOT collected through the weekly curbside collection," said Keyes in a press release. "These items include electronics (computers, printers, TVs, laptops, monitors, desktop printers, desktop faxes only), clothing, motor oil, metal items, fluorescent light bulbs and larger pieces of brush."

Keyes said Roxbury residents should continue using curbside collection for grass, leaves, paper and cardboard as well as cans and bottles.

Although the center is re-opening, COVID-19 safety measures will be in effect, according to Keyes.

"In order to maintain social distancing, a limited number of cars will be allowed in the center at any one time, so please be patient," she said. "Additional staff will be onsite to direct traffic."

Those using the recycling center will be expected to place their items in the proper containers, Keyes said.

"The safety of both staff and the public is paramount; as such social distancing of at least six feet must be maintained," she added
