ROXBURY, NJ - The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a "snow squall warning" this afternoon, warning that motorists in the Roxbury area might face hazardous road conditions.
The warning was issued at 3:02 p.m. and the NWS said the danger is expected to last until about 3:45 p.m.
"A dangerous snow squall was located along a line extending from near Pomona to near Succasunna, moving southeast at 35 mph," said the weather service. It said there is likely to be snow and blowing snow with wind gusts up to 30 mph.
The hazardous road conditions caused by the squall could affect the Garden State Parkway between mile markers 116 and 134, Route 287 between mile markers 0 and 14 and between mile markers 22 and 54, Route 78 between mile markers 32 and 42, Route 80 between mile markers 28 and 48 and the New Jersey Turnpike between exits 10 and 13.
"Reduce your speed and turn on headlights," warned the NWS. "During snow squalls, the visibility may suddenly drop to near zero in whiteout conditions. Slow Down! Rapid changes in visibility and road conditions are expected with this dangerous snow squall. Be alert for sudden whiteout conditions."
