ROXBURY, NJ - April 22 each year is Earth Day, a global effort to recognize man's responsibility to take care of the planet . This Earth Day the Boy Scouts of Roxbury's Troop 54 conducted their semi-annual garbage cleanup of Mill Road and Little Lane in the Berkshire Valley section of the township.
Nine Scouts and four Scout leaders from Troop 54 cleaned up about a mile of Mill Road and a quarter mile of Little Lane. Troop 54 has been cleaning Mill Road twice a year for 19 years under Roxbury Township's Adpot-a-Spot program. The first cleanup was organized in 1999 by Troop 54 Leader Richard Preuss.
This time around there was more garbage than normal; The Scouts filled seven garbage bags with garbage and six bags with recyclable items totaling about 130 pounds of garbage.
Troop 54 has been serving Roxbury’s youth since 1920, helping to build the future leaders of the country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun.
