ROXBURY, NJ - Hillside Church in Succasunna is hosting a "Rise Against Hunger" event next month at which volunteers will package meals to be sent to the hungry.

The event will take place Oct. 26 at 9 a.m. at the church, which has been hosting a number of pre-event fundraisers to raise money for the meals, said organizer Henry Will. "We've already raised enough to meet the 10,000-meal minimum required by Rise Against Hunger to have the event," he said.

However, the church members want to raise enough money to pack 20,000 meals, a level it reached last year. Toward that end, the congregation is holding a fundraiser on Thursday (Sept. 26) at the Fuddruckers in Succasunna. People who come to the restaurant and show special "tickets" for the fundraiser - even on their cellphones - will have a percentage of their meal cost contributed to the church's Rise Against Hunger effort, Will said.

"Our church has been having various fundraisers to raise 34 cents for each meal," he said. "We have had clubs from the schools (the middle school and high school) and the Girl Scouts helping pack meals in the past."

Those interested in helping at the meal packaging can find more information here: http://events.stophungernow.org/HillsideLutheran102619. The event should last two to three hours.

"We are also receiving donations from several businesses in the area," Will said. "We will have a banner to recognize the businesses who support the effort ... The banner will be displayed at the event at Hillside Church."

Businesses that chip in $50 will get a small representation on the banner. Those who give $100 will get a medium size representation and those who want the largest impact must donate $150. "We already have a few businesses who are sponsors and are looking for more," Will said.

To donate, supply a check made out to Hillside Church with “RAH Meal Packaging” in the memo. These can be mailed or delivered to the church and must be received by Oct. 12.

After getting the checks, businesses should call Will at 973-664-7080 to discuss wording and how to send a logo.
