ROXBURY, NJ – Tradition is great, but change can also be good. Theresa Solazzo hopes change can increase greatness when it comes to the annual charity event she organizes: The Talent Show of HOPE.
The change, in this case, starts with a new venue: For the first time in a decade, the talent show this year will not take place in a Roxbury school. Instead, the 15th Annual Talent Show of HOPE will happen Friday evening (Aug. 9) at Our Lady of the Sea at 204 Espanong Road in Lake Hopatcong.
“The show is being taken on the road from Roxbury High School after 10 years in the Roxbury schools,” said Solazzo,a devout Catholic. She said the new setting reflects well on the results of the talent show, commenting, “We’ve been turning the tide, which is the movement to light the world.”
In its 15 years, the show has raised a lot of money for the needy both locally and around the world. “We’re over $100,000 in cash and goods to five continents, 17 countries and over 60 beneficiaries, mostly organizations, sometimes individuals.” Solazzo said. “So the show has really been blessed over the years.”
For many years, the effort involved only one show annually. An extra show was added several years ago “and that brought in another $10,000 on its own in cash and goods,” she said.
This year’s show will include the usual displays of talent but will also feature special appearances by the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, Solazzo said.
“These are the cool guys that are out in the streets in some of the most dangerous places and they go into the jails too,” she said. “They are going to be doing two sets and we will have our typical show … Its about sharing talent, loving all, bringing peace.”
A Rosary of Thanks will take place at 5:30 p.m. and food, treats and iced coffee will go on sale at 5:55 p.m. The show will begin at 6:35 p.m.
A minimum donation of $5 for students, $10 for adults and $25 for families of four or more will be requested. Tickets can be requested on Ticket List at 973-927-3978.
