ROXBURY, NJ – Collin Frost of Randolph blasted through the annual Roxbury Community Benefit 5K race today and crossed the finish line with a time of 15.20.

Afterward, not really seeming all that winded, the 25-year-old said he and the other top runners – including Succasunna’s Justin Scheid and Randolph’s Seamus Higgins – didn’t really push themselves. “We took it out pretty easy,” Frost said.

Too bad, because Frost came with n one second of matching the course record for the Roxbury 5K, set in 2014 when Youseff Rochdi glided across the finish at 15:19.

“Read ‘em and weep,” commented post-race announcer Madeline Bost.

Despite the lost chance for history to be made, this year’s race – the 10th one – was a big success. Under the watchful eye of Roxbury police and volunteers from the Roxbury Fire Department and EMS squad about 540 runners participated, said organizer Jim Schulz. As was the case last year, the decision by Roxbury High School to have the prom on the same night as the race likely left out a lot of good local runners, Schulz said.

Blue skies and mild temperatures greeted the runners who did show up. They started the race on Eyland Avenue in front of Eisenhower Middle School and wound up back there 3.1 miles of hard work later. Their efforts were rewarded with free pizza from Domino’s Pizza, free ice cream from Cliff’s Homemade Ice Cream, snacks from ShopRite and other goodies.

Money raised at the annual race is donated to Roxbury High School Project Graduation, Roxbury First Aid Squad, Roxbury Fire Department, Roxbury Day Care Center, Roxbury Social Services, Kiwanis Scholarship Fund and the St Therese Building Fund.

Much of the debate is based on emotion rather than reasoned thought.

I think that exploration in three areas needs to be more thoroughly discussed and debated. The first is ...
