ROXBURY, NJ - The Roxbury High School baseball team's quest for a Group 3 state championship ended today when the team was defeated in a see-saw of a semi-final game.
Playing on neutral ground in Lyndhurst, the Gaels fell 5-4 against the Chester-based West Morris Wolfpack. West Morris will now play Wall on June 8 for the championship. It will be West Morris' first Group 3 championship game.
The Gaels fell behind early, entering the second inning trailing 1-0. Roxbury evened the score in the second inning but the Wolfpack surged ahead again in the third. The teams went into the fourth inning with West Morris in the lead 3-1.
The end of the fourth saw the teams tied at 4-4, but a solitary run in the fifth put West Morris ahead again. Neither team managed to score in the next two innings.
Roxbury pitcher Nick Danna allowed six hits and three runs in three innings on the mound. TJ Shuman allowed three his and two runs in relief.
Roxbury's season record stands at 16-11.
