ROXBURY, NJ – The Roxbury High School Boys Basketball Team on Friday pulled off an epic comeback to defeat Morristown Beard 47-45.
After trailing for the entirety of the first three quarters, the Gaels took the lead in the fourth and held on for a dramatic finish. This victory was truly a team effort with three players scoring in the double digits. Kyle Haegele led the team with 13 while Trevor Napoliello added 11 and Max Schabel contributed 10.
Most of the first half was dominated by the visiting Morristown Beard team, but Roxbury coaches and players alike were able to slow down the Crimson’s potent offense and generate momentum.
The defense can be credited with playing a pivotal role in the win as it cut its opponents scoring in half, only allowing 15 points in the second half as compared to 30 in the first. Colby Snoke helped the effort by controlling Morristown Beard's sharp-shooter and allowing the Gaels to make their comeback.
With this victory, Roxbury’s record moves to 4-1 for the season. The Gaels’ next game will take place on Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. when they hit the road and battle Mountain Lakes
