MORRIS TWP., NJ – The Roxbury High School ice hockey team, which won the Halvorsen Cup for the first time last year, decisively beat West Morris Central on Wednesday and moved closer to another shot at winning the prize.

The win means Roxbury, which was the top seed in the division, will take on third-seeded Madison on Friday for the championship.

The Gaels, who went 16-4-0 during regular season play, defeated the Wolfpack 7-3 in tournament bracket action at Mennen Sports Arena. Roxbury dominated Central right out of the gate by scoring six goals in the first period to West Morris’ one. The Wolfpack’s other two goals came in the middle period, when Roxbury made none.

Roxbury goaltender A.J. Pisani made 17 saves.

We were very pleased with our performance against Central tonight and humbled by the opportunity to compete for the Halvorsen Cup again this year,” said Roxbury coach Jon Benbow. “I thought we did a great job of capitalizing on the chances we created, especially in the first period.  Johnny Facchini had a great game tonight.”
