ROXBURY, NJ - The Roxbury High School ice hockey team enjoyed a 5-2 Holiday Tournament win Saturday against West Essex.
It took the Gaels only 24 seconds to get on the scoreboard when Kevin Keane pushed to the front of the net for an unassisted goal. It was a lead that lasted only a few minutes, as West Essex evened the score a few minutes late.

But it was all Roxbury the rest of the way as the Gaels scored three goals in the second period to take a commanding 4-1 lead. The goals came from Nick Falco, with an assist from Nick Hefferle; Keane with an assist from Jake Kooyenga; and a dramatic, unassisted goal from Nick Thomas.
Hefferle, with an assist from Thomas, added the final goal late in the third period. Roxbury goalie Ryan Callahan completed the dominating win, 27 of 29 shots.
The win moves Roxbury to 5-1-1 on the season. The Gaels will play their second game of the tournament on Monday at 4:15 p.m. against River Dell at the Ice Vault in Wayne.
