ROXBURY, NJ - After enduring a tough loss to Chatham on Thursday, the Roxbury High School ice hockey team got back in the win column Saturday with a victory over Sparta/Jefferson United.
The Gaels put Thursday's 8-1 defeat behind themselves with the 4-1 triumph at Skylands Ice World in Stockholm.
Kevin Keane got the scoring started for Roxbury with a power play goal in the first period with an assist from Nick Hefferle.
The Gaels added another goal in the second period from Brian Westergaard with assists from Nick Falco and Ethan Barooah. Westergaard found the back of the net for his second goal early in the third period with an assist from Joe DiDomenico.
Sparta/Jefferson's only goal of the game came in the third period. Roxbury goaltender Ryan Callahan was excellent again, stopping 17 of 18 shots.
Barooah closed out the scoring with a shorthanded, empty net goal as the game was ending.
The win moves Roxbury to 3-1-1 on the season. Its next game is Dec. 18 at 4 p.m. against Montville at Mennen Arena.
