ROXBURY, NJ - The 2022 Roxbury High School Softball team, the school's best in three decades, was awarded championship rings Monday at a ceremony in the high school.

The rings, honoring the Gaels for winning Roxbury softball's first state title in 29 years, were presented by Roxbury High School Principal Dominick Miller and Roxbury Softball Head Coach Paul Critelli.

It was a night of reflective celebration that brought the team back together. The rings were donated by the Roxbury Board of Education and the Roxbury High School Softball Parent’s Association.

“The girls acted like they never left each other," reflected Critelli afterward. "Reminiscing about that magical season and catching up on college, the girls chatted and laughed their way through eating pizza and cake.”

The night did not end for the team once the players got their rings. “After a few team pictures with the girls donning their new rings - in true Roxbury fashion - they went to support the varsity girls basketball team playing against Bernards,” Critelli stated.

As he joined the girls in the stands of the Roxbury gym, Critelli was reminded that the team he led to the championship was pretty special.**BULLSEYE

“I reflected on how much this group meant to the school," he said. "As they excitedly cheered on each offensive and defensive possession (in the basketball game), it reminded me of what made this group so special. Their chemistry and energy made being around them so much fun. And when the pressure was on, they relied on each other to be great.”

Critelli ended the ring ceremony with a special note to his team: “Thank you girls, for believing in a vision where team comes before individual success," he said. "You ladies never got distracted from the bigger picture and handled every moment along the way with class. The coaching staff will forever be grateful of your commitment and the standard you set for future teams that follow.”
