ROXBURY, NJ - A Roxbury High School soccer player is collecting pre-owned soccer equipment to send to a soccer-oriented charity in the Philippines.
The player, Clarence Ong, has collected hundreds of items, including cleats, futsal shoes, jerseys, balls, shin guards and socks. He's sent multiple boxes to the PlayForAll Foundation in Payatas, Philippines, and he hopes to send more.
FairPlayForAll Foundation gives children the opportunity to escape poverty through the game of soccer. Children who are part of the program are also given financial and academic aid so they can continue studying and playing soccer without having to worry about food and other necessities.
By donating gear, the foundation is able to expand and bring in more players, in turn changing many lives.
Ong has been playing for Roxbury soccer teams since he was five years old. He just finished his final year with Roxbury High School varsity and currently plays as a center midfielder for the STA MO travel team.
Currently, there is a collection box at the main entrance of Roxbury High School. Monetary donations are accepted as well and will be used to help cover shipping costs.
