ROXBURY, NJ - The Roxbury High School field hockey team heads for state tournament play Saturday with hopes of extending - just a bit longer - the high school field hockey careers of its 12 seniors.

The 10-7 Gaels will take on West Morris Central at Chester in the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1, Group 3 quarterfinal battle. Both Roxbury and West Morris got to the quarterfinals with byes.

West Morris came out the winner when the teams last played, on Oct. 21. If Roxbury wins the quarterfinals game, it will take on either Northern Highlands or Montvale in semifinal action on Oct. 29.

On Oct 17, the team celebrated its 12 graduating seniors with a special Senior Night affair. Each senior was announced on the field, escorted by family members and their plans for the future were shared.

Senior Night was made even better with a 1-0 win over Sparta. The goal was scored by senior Taylor Woolford with an assist by senior Emily Stanich. Goalie Antonia Cacopardo, also a senior, made nine saves.

The team beat Morris Knolls on Wednesday, shutting out the Golden Eagles 3-0.
