ROXBURY, NJ - The Roxbury High School girls basketball team's tough season didn't get easier on Wednesday when the Gaels were trampled by Sparta.

Playing at home, Roxbury lost 62-22, bringing its record to 1-6.

The Spartans took a double-digit lead in the first period and never looked back. It was 33-8 by the halftime buzzer.

Senior Lauren Byrne was Roxbury's top scorer, adding nine points to the tally.

Sparta's Brynn McCurry put up 20 points for her team and pulled down nine rebounds. She had three assists and two steals playing strong up and down the court.

The Gaels will try to turn things around Friday when they play Morris Knolls in a 6 p.m. away game.
