ROXBURY, NJ - The Roxbury High School volleyball team brought its season record to 3-1 on Tuesday with a win over Morris Knolls.
Playing at home, the Gaels defeated the Golden Eagles with a 2-0 shutout that saw Roxbury dominate in both sets: 25-14 and 25-15.
"We have a great group of girls who are really hardworking," said coach Anthony McMichael. "Our varsity team is young, but very talented"
He noted the team has only two seniors on the roster, but believes the players will nevertheless be competitive.
"We have a talented young core of players, and we hope to compete for the Morris County Championship over the next few seasons," McMichael said. "Sophomore Sammy Olander has been outstanding as an outside hitter. Hitting outside is incredibly demanding, and Sammy has done a wonderful job transitioning from being a middle-blocker her freshman year to an outside hitter this year."
The coach also praised other players.
"Amber Chen and Quinn Longo (both juniors) return this season as Statewide All-Group players, and as NJAC All-Conference players, and their experience and leadership has helped guide our younger players throughout the preseason and early season," he said.
Said Longo, "If we continue working hard, I really think that we can have an amazing season. We really look forward to competing the rest of the season against a very strong schedule."
Middle blocker Juliana Medini said, "We are a hardworking group of girls with a passion to win, and we are very excited to compete this fall."
