A Letter From Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Thanking 5K Participants, Sponsors and Volunteers

On behalf of the Fanwood-Scotch Plains Y and the Scotch Plains Fanwood Parent Teacher Council we would like to thank the participants who raced in our 1 mile and 5 K on Wednesday, May 17, 2017.  United for A Cause is intended to celebrate and provide opportunities for health and wellness within the Scotch Plains-Fanwood community.  Proceeds from United for a Cause will benefit the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA® program and will support a Scotch Plains Fanwood High School scholarship for a student pursuing further education in the Health and Wellness field.

The United for a Cause 5K is a healthy community event that will “give” back to our local families and students. Many of our local students choose to pursue a career in the health and wellness field and this event will acknowledge a student’s positive intentions by providing scholarship monies to put towards their college, school or training program costs. By providing financial support we hope to foster their desire to make our world healthier.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA® is a twelve-week physical activity program free to members of our community whose lives have been challenged with cancer. The LIVESTRONG program enables the YMCA to offer participant’s educational seminars, childcare assistance and services for financial management. The program focus helps recovering cancer survivors; “get their lives back” physically, mentally and spiritually. We want to give survivors the tools to continue their journey of health and wellness beyond the twelve-week program.

The Missing Moses

A seemingly dubious distinction belongs to this week’s Parshah, Tetzaveh (Exodus 27:20–30:10). It is the only reading in the Torah — from the first Parshah of the book of Exodus (in which he is born) until the end of the book of Numbers — where the name of Moses is not mentioned. Tetzaveh’s opening words are V’atah ...

Valentine’s Day is a day filled with Hallmark cards, chocolate covered strawberries, red roses and special dining.  It’s a day to express our love and affection to those close to us.  Some of us have expectations that this day will be blissful, we may even receive that diamond ring that represents engagement or marriage.
