On behalf of the Fanwood-Scotch Plains Y and the Scotch Plains Fanwood Parent Teacher Council we would like to thank the participants who raced in our 1 mile and 5 K on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. United for A Cause is intended to celebrate and provide opportunities for health and wellness within the Scotch Plains-Fanwood community. Proceeds from United for a Cause will benefit the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA® program and will support a Scotch Plains Fanwood High School scholarship for a student pursuing further education in the Health and Wellness field.
The United for a Cause 5K is a healthy community event that will “give” back to our local families and students. Many of our local students choose to pursue a career in the health and wellness field and this event will acknowledge a student’s positive intentions by providing scholarship monies to put towards their college, school or training program costs. By providing financial support we hope to foster their desire to make our world healthier.
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA® is a twelve-week physical activity program free to members of our community whose lives have been challenged with cancer. The LIVESTRONG program enables the YMCA to offer participant’s educational seminars, childcare assistance and services for financial management. The program focus helps recovering cancer survivors; “get their lives back” physically, mentally and spiritually. We want to give survivors the tools to continue their journey of health and wellness beyond the twelve-week program.
We would like to thank the many volunteers who helped us to prepare this race as well as run it on the day of the event. Thanks to all of the PTA Health and Wellness representatives from each of the schools for all of their work in “spreading the word” to each of the schools and thanks to all of the individuals from the Y who helped in planning and executing this race.
We would like to thank the Scotch Plains Police department. They worked hard to provide us a safe route with which to run and were great to work with.. We would like to thank the Scotch Plains Rescue Squad for providing us on-site services during the race.
