To The Editor:

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank the children of all ages who came out to see me at the Holiday Celebration in Scotch Plains this past Sunday. It was great to see so many people come out on a breezy, but beautiful day. I had a lot of fun meeting the nearly 300 children and their families.
I want to thank the many people who made my visit possible. Thanks to the Scotch Plains Fire Department, Department of Public Works, and Recreation Department for helping to set up the event and also allowing it to run smoothly. Thank you to the Scotch Plains Police Department for keeping everyone safe. A special thank you goes to Mayor Kevin Glover for lighting the beautiful Christmas tree in Alan Augustine Park.

Thanks to Joanne Glover, Councilwoman Colleen Gialanella, and Councilwoman-elect Rose Checchio for their parts in coordinating the day’s activities and for their planning. Thanks especially go to my elves, Irene Bartels, Kim Nix, and Sylvia Hicks for adding to the fun, and to Queen Elsa for joining me for pictures.

A special thank you goes to Scotch Plains Business and Professional Association President Lisa Mohn of Apple Blossom Flower Shop for planning the event. Lisa’s tireless efforts have made the event a highlight of the holiday season for many years. Thanks also go to the rest of the volunteers who helped with face painting, caricatures and tree decorating, in addition to all the event sponsors, for helping to make the day a wonderful success.

I want to wish everyone a happy, healthy and peaceful holiday season. Don’t forget my cookies (chocolate chip or peanut butter) and milk (1% please – Mrs. Claus says I need to lose some weight) on Christmas Eve! And please don’t forget the carrots for the reindeer.

Sincerely,

Santa Claus
North Pole
