Adult Summer Reading this July at Scotch Plains Public Library

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- This year’s summer reading theme is Build a Better World, and the Scotch Plains Public Library has planned several activities for adults to enjoy.

On Friday, July 7 at 10:00 a.m., create a natural Mosquito Repellent Mason Jar with essential oils and citrus fruits.

Inspired by our Harry Potter Day on June 26, we will discuss J.K. Rowling’s first novel for adults, The Casual Vacancy, on Wednesday, July 16 at 6:30 p.m. Registration is required to reserve a copy of the book.

Two programs will preview our upcoming WWI series. On Friday, July 21 at 10:00 a.m., we will make chocolate mousse using a recipe sent home from Europe during the war. On Saturday, July 22, a group will meet at the New York Historical Society to view their World War I Beyond the Trenches exhibit.

On Monday, July 24 at 7:00 p.m., learn how to refinish with chalk paint with Marc Desranleau from Uptown Vintage. Due to the materials used, this is strictly an adults-only class.

Every Friday in July, we will show a movie based on a book. Titles include The Light Between Oceans, The Girl on the Train, Live by Night, and Inferno.

We will harvest from our herb garden and new WWI Victory Garden on Fridays. Samples will be available to the public as they last. Scotch Plains and Fanwood adult cardholders are invited to play our Summer Reading Bingo game.

The above programs are free to interested attendees. However, space is limited, and advanced registration is required, for most programs. Please visit our website, www.scotlib.org, or call 908-322-5007 x204 for more information and to register.
