All Saints Episcopal Church Welcomes New Rector

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Scotch Plains welcomes its new rector, the Reverend Susanna Cates. A 2013 graduate of the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, TX, she served previously at the Church of the Heavenly Rest in Abilene, TX, and at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morristown, NJ.

The Reverend Cates joined the Episcopal Church in 2004, after having been raised in the Jewish faith. She joyfully incorporates all she loved and learned about Judaism into her Christian practice, teaching, and preaching. Her greatest love in church work is formation for all ages. In fact, her work with the church started with youth volunteer teaching and swiftly extended to Bible study with adults, summer camps with younger children, and the discernment process that led her to seminary and ordained ministry.

Born and raised in Gainesville, FL, The Reverend still considers herself a proud Gator, despite ten years of attempted indoctrination by her friends in Texas. She loves cooking and engaging in what she refers to as “theological tourism.” Her travels include grant work in Kenya, multiple trips to Israel and Palestine, a self-guided church tour in England and France, and many domestic excursions.

Services are held every Sunday at 8:00 and 10:00 a.m., with Children’s Sunday School at 10:00 a.m. in conjunction with the service. More worship and Adult Education opportunities are coming soon!
