CLARK, NJ - John McPartlan started in the restaurant business at 14-years-old washing dishes. By 31, he was part owner in his first restaurant in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.  

As the new Millennium began, McPartlan’s vision and experiences as a restaurateur migrated to New Jersey when he bought Casual Times. By 2002, McPartlan had fully rebranded the restaurant and launched Molly Maguire’s in Clark. It has been a community landmark ever since.

“I want people to experience an authentic turn of the century Irish pub as they would see it in County Galway,” McPartlan said.  His vision translates to patrons each time they walk through the doors and into the large, well-stocked and approachable bar.

“You can come in here and find warm, friendly service and lots of friendly faces around the bar,” said McPartlan. “Your friends and neighbors are here.” 

Depending upon the time of day and the day of the week, Molly Maguire’s offers a choice of settings to meet your mood, crowd and occasion. 

The pub offers a large bar, dining tables, an area for live music and entertainment and a menu of small plates for customers to enjoy with their libations.  Adjacent to this is a large, multi-sectioned dining room perfect for lunch, brunch and dinner with family, friends or that special someone. A short trip downstairs leads to Croke Park Sports Pub furnished with all the flat screen TVs and pub fare guests would need to enjoy their favorite game. 

Molly Maguire’s offers an extensive menu to fit the desires of any appetite.  Alongside classic appetizers, Molly Maguire’s offers others with a twist, like Guinness BBQ wings or Southwestern egg rolls. There are salads and soups, for those looking for something warm or light. “Build Your Own” gives diners the chance to design a custom burger, pub steak or chicken sandwich.

“We have a really diverse menu, steaks, chops, lamb, chicken, seafood and pasta,” McPartlan said. And he’s right, with Pork Chop Murphy, rack of lamb, stuffed shrimp, Chicken Samantha and Salmon Rockefeller representing some of the menu’s diversity.

At the heart of Molly Maguire’s is its Irish heritage, clearly evident on the menu. The Irish Fare section offers chicken pot pie, shepherd’s pie, Molly’s fish and chips, corned beef and cabbage and a hearty Guinness Stew. Irish white or black puddings, bangers and mashed and Irish rashers reinforce the rich culinary experience of Ireland. Traditional Irish music on the first Sunday of every month, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., rounds out the Irish dining experience.

No matter the meal, Molly Maguire’s bar serves up the best beer, wine and cocktails; from local craft brews, domestic and imported beers to specialty martinis and mixed drinks.

Live entertainment is a staple at Molly’s Maguire’s. The band lineup changes monthly. Thursday is acoustic night. The best local and regional bands pack the house on Friday and Saturday nights. Molly Maguire’s website has the most up to date entertainment listings.

McPartlan seems to have thought of everyone from age 8 to 108 when planning the offerings at Molly Maguire’s. He speaks with pride about his establishment and knows his customers are the reason he gets to do what he loves.  

“Thanks to our customers we are still going strong after 15 years and we hope to be here to serve another generation,” said McPartlan.
