PLAINFIELD, NJ Organists Brian Preston Harlow, Colin MacKnight, Thomas Rodgers, and Barbara Thompson will be performing on Sunday, March 19 at 3:00 p.m. at the historic Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church in Plainfield.  The annual organ festival, this year entitled Pipe Dreams, provides an opportunity to enjoy the range and power of the 97 rank Gilbert Adams organ, in the gorgeous acoustics of CAPC’s Neo-Gothic sanctuary.

This year, selections by Bach, Clerambault, Duruflé, and others will be performed by the following outstanding organists:

  • Brian Preston Harlow is the Organist and Choirmaster of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Gladstone, NJ; Director of the Rutgers University Chorus, Newark Campus; and both Director of the Apprentice Chorus and music theory teacher at the Newark Boys Chorus School. He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts, Master of Musical Arts and Master of Music from Yale University School of Music, and has been the recipient of many prestigious awards from Yale and elsewhere.
  • Colin MacKnight is a C.V. Starr Doctoral Fellow at The Juilliard School, where he also received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He serves as Assistant Organist at New York City’s Church of the Resurrection under music director David Enlow. Colin placed first in the 2016 Albert Schweitzer Organ Competition and the 2016 Arthur Poister Scholarship Competition, and has won several other competitions and scholarships. 
  • Thomas Rodgers earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA, where he studied piano with Dr. Robert Hopkins and organ with Raymond Ocock. He pursued graduate studies in church music at Westminster Choir College, Princeton, NJ, where he studied organ with Dr. George Markey and Joan Lippincott.  He has been the Director of Music at the Bound Brook Presbyterian Church since 1976. 
  • Barbara Thomson was a finalist in the prestigious International Congress of Organists Organ Playing Competition and has recorded for Spectrum Records, Voice of America, Radio Bremen (Germany), and Vermont Public Television. Dr. Thomas earned her Master’s degree from the Eastman School of Music, and her doctorate from Peabody Conservatory. She is currently Voorhees Chapel Organist at Rutgers University, Organist and Director of Music at the Congregational Church of Westfield, and Organist and Director of Music at Temple B’nai Abraham in Livingston.
