UNION, NJ -- Matt Fox's three-run double in the fifth inning with two out highlighted a four-run inning for Scotch Plains-Fanwood and helped lead the Raiders to a 6-2 baseball victory over Union in the opening round of the Section 2, Group 4 state tournament Tuesday afternoon.
Jake Canavan went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Spencer Vaughn went 2-for-3 with a double. Patrick Downey added a hit, an RBI and a run scored.
Timmy Geissel gave up two runs (none earned) and struck out five in six innings of work before Danny Wilkinson finished the game, pitching a hitless inning with a strikeout.
The Raiders (17-9) have a tough battle ahead as they travel to face the top seeded team in their bracket, Millburn (ranked 12th in the state), in the quarterfinals of the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 tournament on Thursday.
