SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- In a seesaw battle of crosstown rivals, Union Catholic came out on top of Scotch Plains-Fanwood, 6-5, in an exciting contest, capped by Matt Lettieri's sliding catch in right field with the tying run on third to end the game. . 

The teams traded goose eggs in the first two innings before Union Catholic scored a run in the bottom of the third. The Raiders scored three in the top in a fifth inning highlighted by Pete Warren's triple. Warren went 3-for-4 with two triples.

After UC cut the deficit to 3-2 when pinch-runner Shamar Crawford scored on a passed ball, Ryan Reilly hit a run-scoring single through the infield scoring Lettieri to tie the game at 3-3. Donivyn Cruz followed with a line drive single to center to score Josh Ciano and put the Vikings ahead, 4-3. Two more runs scored on a throwing error on what could have been a double play ball by Sean Valli, who had knocked in UC's first run with an RBI single in the third inning.

Jake Canavan continued his hot hitting by going 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Sophomore catcher Michael Dieu notched his first varsity hit for the Raiders.
