SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The Scotch Plains police report that there has been a black bear sighting in the area of Mountain Avenue and Henry Street, not far from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School. It appears to be heading toward Route 22.

The SPFK-12 school district has alerted parents that school will begin at its regular time. 

The bear is running through yards and the neighborhood. Police units are setting up a perimeter to surround the bear. Animal Control notified and en route, according to BNN Breaking News Network.

"Several officers are in the area monitoring the situation. Please use caution," advised Scotch Plains Police Chief Ted Conley. "If you see a bear, call 908-322-7100 x150 to report it. If it is an emergency, dial 9-1-1."
